GD Goenka International School, Sonepat, celebrated Mother’s Day 2025 on Friday, 9 May, with a morning assembly and felicitation ceremony held in the school’s main auditorium. The event brought together mothers of students from Pre-Primary through Senior Secondary for a two-hour programme designed by the school’s cultural committee and class teachers.
The celebration opened with a welcome address from the Principal, followed by a series of student performances dedicated to the theme “A Mother’s Love, A Child’s World.” Primary-wing students performed a group dance set to a medley of Hindi film songs about motherhood, while Class 6-8 students presented a short skit dramatising a mother’s daily sacrifices — from packing lunchboxes before dawn to staying up during exam season. Senior students closed the performance segment with a spoken-word poetry piece written collectively by the Class 11 English elective group, each verse addressing a different facet of a mother’s role: caregiver, teacher, friend, and quiet anchor of the household.
A highlight of the morning was the handwritten card exchange: every student across the primary wing had spent the previous week’s art period making a personalised card for their mother, which was presented during a one-on-one moment on stage as each child’s name was called. Several mothers were visibly moved, and many stayed afterward to thank the class teachers who had coordinated the activity.
The school also recognised three mothers with a short felicitation for their volunteer contributions to the PTA and annual sports day organisation over the past year — presented with a bouquet and certificate of appreciation by the Principal.
The event closed with a community breakfast in the school lawns, where mothers, teachers, and students mingled informally — a first for the school’s Mother’s Day format, which in previous years had ended immediately after the assembly.
